In this guide, I will be showing you what the essential Nintendo Switch Lite accessories are. These are things that are considered must-haves, rather than nice to have items. First, I must explain that with the Switch Lite there are a few pros and cons when comparing to it’s bigger the brother the Nintendo Switch. Although cheaper and arguably more attractive in design, the Switch Lite does not support all Switch titles out of the box. The list of games that are unsupported on the Switch Lite is quite small, and a lot of these drawbacks can be mitigated with the correct accessory.
A few things to be aware of with the Switch Lite: –
The Switch Lite is Handheld only, there is no way of connecting this to your TV.
There are no detachable controllers included with the console.
Out of the box, the Switch Lite does not support HD Rumble or the IR Sensor used by some games.
The screen is slightly smaller coming in at 5.5inches compared to the original’s 6.2inches.
There is no kickstand with this console, it is designed to be played handheld only.
If these things bother you, you can pick up a regular Switch here which offers a fuller range of features, but for the majority of games such as Animal Crossing, Pokémon & Zelda you’ll be fine with the Switch Lite.

Screen Protector
This one should be pretty self-explanatory and should be applied to your Switch Lite immediately, there is nothing worse than fingerprints or scratches on the screen and this protector by HORI helps and being officially licensed by Nintendo, you can rely on the HORI Screen protective filter to be of high quality.
Luckily for us, the Switch Lite cannot be docked like the original Switch so we do not have to worry about the hard plastic dock scratching the screen.
There are plenty of screen protectors out there, however, HORI has a patented a new installation method making it really easy and simple to install and align your protector, leaving no bubbles or dust underneath.
Nintendo Switch Lite Slim Tough Pouch
If you are going to buy only one accessory for your Switch Lite, choose this. This tough pouch, once again from HORI, will protect your Switch Lite while travelling. It is very discreet, compact yet durable and has room inside for the console itself along with some slots to store up to ten Nintendo Switch games and a mess pouch area to store some headphones/earbuds.
The colours are pretty bold and the interior lining even includes little cutout grooves for the Z buttons to make sure everything stays nice and snug inside.
This pouch is rigid and feels like it could tank a drop or two unlike others and does a great job of keeping your Switch Lite safe.
You can pick up the Hori Tough pouch here, Alternatively, you can get both the Hori Screen Protector and carrying case together as a set here, but this one is not as rigid and only has space for 8 games.
Storage - Micro SD Card
If you are buying a Nintendo Switch you are going to need an SD card. The Switch Lite still has the same 32GB of storage as the original Switch, but this is not enough. If you are playing just a couple of games you should be OK, but some of these games are massive. Dragon Quest Heros I & II, for example, come in at 32GB. You would not even be able to download these without additional storage for your switch.
Nintendo sells branded SD cards, but they are expensive. I would recommend picking up a Sandisk Ultra 128GB or a 256GB, This will expand your storage enough to hold a good collection of games and save data.
Adjustable Charging Stand
With the Switch Lite being slightly smaller, Nintendo did not see it fit to include a kickstand with the design of the Lite. After all the ‘Joy-cons’ on the lite are built into the console with no way to remove them.
Did you know you can sync additional controllers, such as the Switch Pro controller or Joy-Cons to your Switch Lite? This will allow you to add HD rumble and allow you to play games like Super Mario Party & 1-2-Switch.
With the Adjustable Charging Stand we can bring back a lot of this functionality and as an added bonus you can even charge your console while it is in the stand. It’s a nice alternative!
Anker PowerCore 13400 Nintendo Switch Edition
Running out of charge is never fun! Although the Switch Lite has a slightly improved battery over the original model, there is nothing more frustrating than realising your running out of battery and are away from home.
Luckily, Anker has a great solution in the PowerCore 13400 Nintendo Switch Edition. This is a very small power bank that is officially licensed by Nintendo. This will give your Switch Lite approximately 2 full charges and is approximately the side of two Joy-cons side by side. A very handy item for long journeys and holidays.
HORI Switch Game Card Case
This HORI Switch game card case is a must-have for anyone who likes to buy physical and is an officially licensed product by Nintendo. The case easily fits easily into any bag and allows you to keep your game cases safe, displayed on your self at home!
The case holds up to 24 Nintendo Switch game cartridges and even has 2 slots for Micro SD cards.
